Senior Home Safety

Guide To Senior Home Safety

I’m looking for a home monitoring system for an elderly parent. can you suggest a system that tracks activity?

I’m looking for a system that can be installed or put into the home of a senior citizen, that can track and record data about their daily activity. Ideally, it would give me (the care-giver) a daily summary of activity (when they wake up, how many times they go to the bathroom, how often they go to the kitchen, etc…) and can also alert me in the event of a problem (such as a fall or heart attack) I have found several systems online, but none that I am really satisfied with. Can anyone suggest a system that does these basic things?

Please post any suggestions on systems, even if you’re not sure if it’s what I am looking for!!

Any information will help!

Thanks in advance!

You could use something similar to a “nanny cam.”

My mom had two systems. One was a gadget she wore around her neck where she could push a button if she fell (the old “I’ve fallen and I can’t get up” product).

The other was linked to her local hospital. She would just press a button when she woke up in the morning; the signal would go to the hospital to let them know she was OK. If there was no signal, they called her; if she didn’t answer, they called a designated friend/family member.

I think you would need somthing like a “nanny” cam. Well, it’s to monitor the nannies in home but you may also install it to see what the elderly person does thru out the day.

Here are some websites, not sure it is what you are looking for

There are several technology based assistive programs out there for precisely this type of thing. I’ve included a few links for you to look at on the topic. Best of luck.

If you are your mother’s “caregiver” then you would be in the home to monitor all of that to begin with instead of looking for a system to do it for you as a caregiver is actually in the home and not wanting a system to do it for them, I suggest instead that if your mother needs that much monitoring you try hiring somebody to do it and that way your mother will also have somebody there to talk to and to make sure that in case she suffers from Alzheimer’s she doesn’t wonder away without somebody knowing because no in home monitoring system can keep track of her if she should wonder off.

I would throw my sons out if they ever tried to put a system in that monitored my potty trips or anything else I did. The elderly aren’t children. If you need that much control then they need assisted living.

    Are you concerned or nosy?
